John Abandons Wife, Child and Job for Bicycle Jaunt

So I am taking off to Canada for a three week bike ride through many National Parks - oh yeah!!

This will be a fully loaded tour. In fully loaded touring (also known as self-supported touring) cyclists carry everything they need, including food, cooking equipment, and a tent for camping opposed to lightweight touring—informally called credit-card touring among cyclists because the rider carries a minimum of equipment and a lot of money.

It wasn't too difficult to convince my family that I wanted to ride on a extended bike trip. In fact they are very supportive to me. My wife and daughter know I love to cycle and it is important to me. They always give me the moral support and help I need to achieve my goals.

My employer was also understanding and granted me the needed vacation. Let's face it, I am burning a lot of vacation time here.

As I always say, "if not now then when?"

For this jaunt I have selected a Soma Double Cross bicycle frame and built it up with some fairly decent components; at least I think so. In the next day or so I will post on my bike build; it shows all the components of my build. Be sure to look at the pictures of the bike located at the bottom of the bike build page.

I spent about three months researching and buying the component. My local bike shop (LBS) did the pro-build for me. Willow Glen bike shop is a great LBS. The owner (Dick) and staff are really nice and knowledgeable; especially Tahn. Besides building my wheel-set Tahn was invaluable in helping spec out my bike.

I will try to post to this blog as often as possible so you can share in my adventure. Check back often!!

In the coming days I'll post an overview of my route, my bike and some equipment I am taking.

As always please comment to my posts as I love to hear from you.

When your heart speaks, take good notes.

cheers!

John
